Forklift Tire Specs
Forklifts have been an important device in commercial businesses and industry since the year 1917. During its history the forklift has changed through various kinds, from a basic tractor with an attached platform to a specialized high-tech equipment. Forklift tires have also evolved into specialized tires, with various kinds designed to suit particular applications.
Cushion (Solid) Tires
A cushion tire is made of solid polyurethane or rubber and is best for indoor applications on smooth surfaces. The tread of a cushion tire is bonded or pressed onto the tire's steel ring. Cushion tires are rated for various load capacities and for ease of steering. Cushion tires are usually used within warehouse atmosphere.
Pneumatic Tires
Air or foam is used to fill pneumatic forklift tires. They are available in two types: bias or radial. Depending on the application, they come with different sidewall protection, tread depths and weight. Foam-filled pneumatic forklift tires maintain constant pressures and are less susceptible to punctures. Pneumatic tires are commonly used outdoors on uneven, rough surfaces.
Pneumatic Shaped Solid/Solid Pneumatic
Solid Pneumatic Hybrid tires combine the comfortable ride of a pneumatic tire with the puncture resistance of a solid tire. They are a great option to the outdoor pneumatic tire.
Large Rubber and Flotation Tires
Utilized on wheel loader forklifts are large rubber tires that could either be pneumatic, solid or foam. These tires are best for loading and moving heavy objects into processing equipment or onto trucks. Big flotation pneumatic tires are best for masted rough terrain forklifts commonly utilized at automobile recyclers, lumberyards and construction sites.
