What is the Distinction between Pneumatic Tire and Cushion Tire?

One of the most common questions about this kind of equipment is knowing the difference between pneumatic tire forklifts and cushion tire forklifts. Each tire type is specifically right for different needs.

Pneumatic Tires have air in them, similar to vehicle tires. These types of tires are suitable for indoor application but they are more effective on uneven and gravel surfaces and in outdoor "yard" applications.

Cushion tires are designed as a solid industrial tire which is utilized mostly for indoor applications. These tires can be utilized outdoors on just asphalt surfaces. If you do drive cushion tires outside, there is an alternative to get traction tires on the front of the machinery. These are referred to as the drive tires. The back tires or the steer tires are specifically made for steering. Traction tires situated on the rear of the forklift will just wear out faster. Hence, if you do need to work outside, having traction on the front and the smooth tires on the rear would be the safest and most economical way to operate.

What is the difference between Air Pneumatic and Solid Pneumatic tires?

When trying to determine the main difference between the two kinds of tires, it can be a bit tricky. They both operate in the same outdoor conditions like gravel, and asphalt. The main difference between the two tire types is solid pneumatics are made of solid rubber. This means you cannot pop, gouge and puncture them as they are durable. These types of tires are more costly than air pneumatic tires since they are made up of way more rubber. These tires are best suited for locations such as scrap yards and lumber yards where there may be a lot of sharp objects and debris on the ground.

The pneumatic tire can be punctured accidentally. You could get flat tires from them when this occurs. Before operating a forklift with air pneumatic tires, be sure that the yard is free of sharp metals, nails and scrap debris and by checking your work area. In most applications, standard air pneumatic tires function great.
