Classifications of Aerial Lift Platforms & Scissor Lifts
A scissor lift consists of a series of crisscrossed steel arms that are connected to make an X pattern. When vertically raised, the X pattern of support holds the rectangular platform which is situated on top of the lifting apparatus. There are support railings along the lifting mechanism's edges in order to help secure the workers' tools and keep them safe.
Scissor lifts provide a low profile which is great for concrete, pavement and hard dirt surfaces. These machinery utilize either a combustion engine or electric motor to be able to move the lift and power the lifting mechanism. The operator must move the lift itself if she or he has to travel horizontally, as the lift mechanism only operates the lift in a vertical manner.
Rough Terrain Scissor Lift
Rough terrain scissor lifts utilize the same lifting technology as a regular scissor lift. The main difference is that the rough terrain units feature a different base which is particularly made for uneven surfaces. These models also provide higher ground clearance and oversized all terrain tires. The rough terrain scissor lifts utilize 4-wheel drive in order to easily navigate through muddy and difficult terrain.
Telescopic Boom Lift
Telescopic booms are made to be elevated both vertically and diagonally. This specific model has a small work platform that houses controls to be able to operate the boom. The controls function with a combustion engine so as to power the hydraulics which move the lift and power the boom. The telescopic boom lift is an independent lift model and has off-road capable tires.
Articulating Boom Lift
The articulating boom lift features 2 telescopic booms which are connected with a moving elbow apparatus. This lifting machinery has a small work platform or a bucket which is outfitted with hand controls to be able to control the boom. These are stand-alone lifts which are powered by a combustion engine. Articulating boom lifts are offered with either off-road or hard surface tires. These lifts are designed in order to reach over top of and on top of buildings.
Aerial Mast Lift
The aerial mast lift uses a telescopic mast in order to lift a work platform vertically into the air. Normally, these lifts are electrically powered or pneumatic powered and are self-propelled machinery. These machines offer a great solution for working in high racks within narrow warehouse aisles. It is very essential to keep in mind that aerial mast lifts are limited to vertical movement and are not recommended for off-road use.
