Solid Lift Truck Tire Safety
Over 200 deaths per year within North America are caused by lift trucks, or forklifts. Proper inspection and maintenance of forklift tires could really help to reduce the risk of accidents.

Pre-Work Inspection
The tires on the forklift should be checked at the beginning of every shift, inspected for signs of wear and damage. The air pressure inside the tires must be inspected to make sure that the pressure is not very low. Having a tire pressure which is low can make the machine susceptible to tip-overs when lifting loads.

Types of Tires
The tire type of the forklift would be based upon the type of floor surface that the lift truck would operate on. Solid rubber tires are great for indoor application. For surfaces which are smooth, tires tend to be smaller. Larger pneumatic tires are great for lift trucks being utilized outdoors. Pneumatic tires are able to grip rough surfaces well as they have rubber tread and are air-filled.

Other Considerations
Any lift truck used on a continual basis must be inspected at the completion of each shift, based on OSHA guidelines. The tires must be inspected again for any indication of damage, such as wear or cuts.

Forklift Safety
Forklift safety is essential for any employee or employer utilizing a lift truck because forklift mishaps could be serious causing personal injuries and even death. Even minor accidents can cost your business money if the forklift or the merchandise are damaged in an accident. Be sure you are well informed concerning forklift safety issues.
